Hello Afri-tunes Family, how are you doing? I hope the weekend for you was perfect? I remain @magicfingerz and I am glad to be here today and I bring you a fun mixture of a genre of praise music called Ariria mostly popular in Nigerian churches.
So put on your dancing shoes as I take you to a typical Naija church!
Talking about the weekend,
customarily every weekend, especially on Sundays most persons find time to go to church. Here in Nigeria, church is usually fun and interesting especially during praise hour.
Given our affinity and love highlife music, some renowned musicians have developed a new musical genre (Ariaria) stemming from highlife vibes to be used in churches during praise.
The Making
For ariaria to be complete, there has to be a calypso like percussion or rather drum beat at the background followed by a bass guitar playing an almost consistent bass line in accordance to the song progression, a lead guitar playing a bit liberally but maintaining a unique flow and a keyboard mostly vamping with an ocarina or flute keyboard voice. Very importantly, there is also a Lead vocalist with two or more backup singers.
In my own case, I tried to replicate this fun style of music alone and to some extent using my Yamaha keyboard to create the backing drum and keyboard Ocarina vamp. I then added some lead guitar melodious lines. Finally I Voiced about three popular Ariria songs and played the interludes with a flute voice.
