Regeneration is the title of Brenda Subido-Dácpano's exhibit that is currently installed at Hōka Brew. Hoka Brew is the cafe of The Podium Boutique Hotel located along Marcos Highway. The hotel had been a huge support to artists and you can always find the works of these artists at the lobby of the cafe.

Today, we visited Hoka Brew and saw these art works.

Here you get to see jeepneys as one of the subjects. Jeepneys are one of the major vehicles that our country use as means of transportation. These are invented out of the jeeps that were left behind after the war. It had undergone major overhaul since then to accommodate as much people as it can.

You can also see junks such as electronic parts incorporated in these arts. It is to give life to what is considered trash. That is a great way to repurpose things.

This particular art of hers is different from the rest.

Another subject of hers are childhood games that are popular here in our country just like this kid playing with spiders.

What we do is to hunt for spiders and let them fight on a piece of stick. The best place of hunt for them is dried leaves especially sunflower leaves. There are other places to look for them. We would then place them in matchboxes. If you have a lot, the matchbox would be partitioned complete with cotton or dried leaves and that's where you place your spiders. Most often than not, these spiders die after every fight. Recently, it was discouraged not to play with spiders. I don't even know if kids still do it these days.

Another game is Tumbang Preso or what we call Tatsing Lata. In this game, the "it" had to protect the can at all cost. The rest of the players will do their best to hit that can with a slipper to knock it down or kick it. When that can is knocked down, the it will then fix the can again in proper position before chasing any of the other players to tag and be the next it.

Jackstone is a game that many knows I believe. It's been a long time since I have played this game. It used to be one of the games that we play when we were kids especially when we are not allowed to go out to play. We play this also in school but we prefer playing other outdoor games back then.

When I checked the prices of the works of the featured artist, the above is the most expensive one at PHP25,000.00 (USD455.00). The cheapest is at PHP1,500.00 (USD27.00).

We visited Hoka Brew because the initial restaurant that we wanted to visit is full. So we chose the closest one.

I had my first dose of coffee for the day. I like the mug that was used. Printed on the mug are the tourist spots and some landmarks that one can see around and in the city. This is from the painting that is at the entrance of the hotel. I always see it whenever I visited the place and glad that they decided to put that in their mugs.

Here's another photo that I took by the window. As you can see, the sky is gloomy and dark. It was raining as we were on our way to the cafe.

My partner chose black tea initially but turned out it is not available to green tea it is.

We ordered Hoka Rice which consists of chicken quarter, vegetables, a piece of fried pork and egg on top of steamed rice. This kind of mix of food is popular here in the city. Any food establishment can do this by naming it with the name of the business plus rice in the end. It is personalized as they deemed it to be. Other restaurants can have more or less ingredients.

We started with crab/corn soup. I use the same flowers that I used with the coffee photo above. These flowers are not that fresh though. However, fresh or not, there's #alwaysaflower to talk about.

We planned on attending the music festival and night market but it rained. We were able to see one performer though. They started a song but then the rain also began again. It rained already earlier in the afternoon and we were hoping it will not rain again but unfortunately it did so we had no choice but to go home instead.
