The news has been around for some time. Austria introduced fees from 1st of February for all of those that are not willing to participate in the Covid 19 vaccination program.
Money penalty or jail time
The penalties are high - 3600 EUR is a huge number. To translate it into our currencies - Your freedom of choice costs 1 ETH in Austria. Even 2 ETH if you don't take the jab the second time you "are invited".
Has the aggressive approach brought results
Let's look at the numbers served by media:
The daily numbers of vaccinations has grown from 1,000 a day two weeks ago to around 12,000 a day this week. While the number of first vaccinations has risen by 10-15%.
We can say it is fruitful, but still the interest is quite low, based by the high penalties.
The reasons behind strict penalties are based on disease prevention
With the main intention to press some amount of people who are afraid of paying the fine or going to jail. Probably it will not be a jail jail, but some sort of camp. Being said that is sad as the country has some bad camp reputation.
The penalties are being heavily advertised
Ad blockers have gained some extra points. Imagine (vaccinated or not) to see ads like this. Not a nice things to feel as being pressed by your country, which you pay your hard earned money with taxes every day.
Conclusion
Let's hope the things in Austria go well and the residents stay healthy and still possess their rights. Let's hope that their leaders see the big demonstrations (40.000 people in Vienna last week) against aggressive tactics of their government.
