Why does Judicial Watch have to sue so many in the government for this data?

Judicial Watch defines its mission as follows:

Judicial Watch, Inc.is a conservative, non-partisan educational foundation, which promotes transparency, accountability and integrity in government, politics and the law. Through its educational endeavors, Judicial Watch advocates high standards of ethics and morality in our nation’s public life and seeks to ensure that political and judicial officials do not abuse the powers entrusted to them by the American people. Judicial Watch fulfills its educational mission through litigation, investigations, and public outreach.
The motto of Judicial Watch is “Because no one is above the law”. To this end, Judicial Watch uses the open records or freedom of information laws and other tools to investigate and uncover misconduct by government officials and litigation to hold to account politicians and public officials who engage in corrupt activities.
Litigation and the civil discovery process not only uncover information for the education of the American people on anti-corruption issues, but can also provide a basis for civil authorities to criminally prosecute corrupt officials. Judicial Watch seeks to ensure high ethical standards in the judiciary through monitoring activities and the use of the judicial ethics process to hold judges to account.

Here we are going to take a look at just a few of the FOIA lawsuits Judicial Watch has recently had to file. Note that typically every one of those lawsuits is a result of an insufficient response to a FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) requests filed by Judicial Watch to the relevant government bureaucracy. Some of those lawsuits were filed a few months ago; perhaps they have already yielded results. Also note that the list is not exhaustive - those are just the lawsuits I have become aware of as a result of a few minutes' research.

I think these examples are quite poignant. Even if there is a fully benign explanation for all of the above controversies, the question should still be, "if they have nothing to hide, what is it that they are working so hard to hide?" And yes, they work for us - and they should never be allowed to forget that, not for a second, not under any circumstances. And any government employee, or any agency, that dares forget it needs to be out of job without a minute's delay.
