Good day Hivers. My name is Okorie Amaka Josef. I am the 4th child in a family of 6. I play active football. I am Igbo. And I am a Nigerian.

I was invited by @Cheeamaka. She told me about the platform and the opportunities it presents and I must say I am impressed with all I have seen since I came onboard. The thought of sharing ones thoughts and ideas as also reading about peoples and their daily lives is one that fascinates me and I hope I get along and also meet new friends all over the world.

I say this everytime, I am a family oriented person. For me there's no love like that of your family. I know this because when I was younger, I used to be a truant. I would leave home, go out to the fields and play with the boys. Play soccer gambling money. Play 'OC beating' - a game played by a large number of people where you get beaten if the gam??ball passes through your legs. Get into fight with the dreaded Debam boys ( a voilent cult group).
But when shit hits the fan. When things get out of hand, I always have a family to run to. People who will always accept you no matter what. People who always have my back. That's how beautiful family is.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS

My hobbies are playing videos games, scrabble, chatting and travelling. As someone who plays football, I tend to travel a lot. Be it for screenings it for tournaments. I like travelling a lot. It exposes you to different people, their culture, their way of life. It's a fun thing.
Although I have not been able to explore places like before, because- time, chance , money. But I hope to resume soon. And I hope to carry you all along as I embark on my journey.
I love travelling and staying out of my comfort zone. This isn't for business though. It's strictly for pleasure and site seeing. But a lot has changed now. Due to the increase in the standard of living and the fact that it is now expensive it is not a luxury one can afford.

One of the most exciting places I visited was the Wildlife Farm. It's a farm that houses traditionally undomesticated animals in an agricultural setting to produce living animals for canned hunting and to be kept as pets; commodities such as food and traditional medicine; and materials like leather, fur and fibre.

It was a wonderful experience. I got to see animals I have never heard of or seen. One example of this is the African Giant Eagle . Before then I have never seen or heard about it before. It's such a big bird. And really really scary creature.

I also Learnt about their habits.
I watched closely at the lion cubs. Lion clubs play by stalking each other, playing hide and seek and wrestling with each other. I learnt that with this, they develop vital skills that they will use later in life when they want to hunt for themselves.

SPORTS/PASSION

I am a sports person. As we all know the importance of sports cannot be overemphasized. Sports is a crucial part of ones growth and development. They help in the development of mental health and physical fitness of the body. Through participation in sports and games one can gain various skills, experience and confidence that are helpful for developing their society.

I play various games such as volleyball, tennis and squash. But my favorite sports is football. I love football. It's my passion.
I have had a few disappointing moments in the game. Like losing out on a final that would have allowed us travel abroad to represent Nigeria in an international tournament. I have also had a few good moments. One is emerging the Most Valuable Player in a national tournament. It's a beautiful story. A story I like to tell. Interested? I will tell you anyways. You need a motivation for your day.

On that day I woke up tired and exhausted. I had been doubling up preparing for my exams and also attending the University school team football screening for a match against the national MTN side. Four players were to be selected from each faculty. Somehow I was among the selected four. It was surprising considering the fact that I am a first year. But I was determined to repay the faith they had in me.
The screening had a lot of people in attendance. It turned out it was an open screening and there was a large number of people in attendance.

I had made the screening for the match but there was a problem. I had an exam on the same day and almost the same time. I was sad considering ntge fact at I had worked so hard to be in that team.

I was livid but I had to write my exams. That was the reason I was in the school. My motto had always been "books and boots." Noticed the books came first? Yeah. I am a student before an athlete.

At the exam hall there were no surprises. I saw most of the things I read. I finished in 45 minutes an exam that was slated for 2 hours. I remember the invigilator giving me the "this coconut head don ready to come back next year" look. Lol.

After the exams, I rushed to the stadium. 20 minutes out and you could hear the blaring of music. It was a fun fare. I met my friends who were waiting for me with my kit bag. They had everything I needed for the match. The match had already begun and jerseys shared. The boys were leading us 3 goals to nil. I saw a lot lot of people who didn't make the screening on the pitch. But I wasn't surprised. Matches like this were always played by oldies.
I was introduced 10 minutes before half time. Second half began and we entered into the pitch. We pulled one back and it ended 3-1.
At the end of the games there was a music performance by Inyanya and they gave an award for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) . Guess who won? Yours sincerely. The guy who hurried his exams and played just 45 minutes of the game. It was amazing. A red letter day.

EDUCATIONAL STATUS

I obtained my BSc from the University of Nigeria Nsukka.
I studied Estate Management.
I did my National Youth Service Corp at Makurdi. The National Youth Service Corp is a programme designed by the Nigerian Government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation building and the development of the country. My service year was at Makurdi, Benue state, the capital located in central Nigeria , and part of the middle belt region of central Nigeria.

I was deployed to the Nigerian Airforce Base Makurdi where I served as a secondary school teacher in a public school. I taught Business Studies. Teaching has always been alien to me. I never knew I had the patience for it. But it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I had brilliant, lively kids who were also good in sports. I tried not to focus on solely the academic aspects of the curriculum.
I tried to teach them, to encourage them to be dedicated to their studies and passionate about their careers. I tried to teach them about important life lessons such as ethics, respect,
cultures and a values.
Overall it was a huge responsibility on my part. There were hitches, there were inconceniences but I consider it a wonderful experience. I had the opportunity to rapour and blend with people who are the leaders of tomorrow. It was really a wonderful experience.

LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

At the base I was also voted as the Corpers Director of Games. The work of the Director of Games is to organize sporting events for Corp members in the members. It wasn't an easy thing to do. I had to combine my wortk at my PPA, my football trainings and my duties as the DOG

I organized the weekend football and volleyball games. This always happened in the morning on Saturday. We played volleyball with music playing in the background. It used to be so much funnnn.

Screenshot_20211106-094856~2.png

There was also a football match between us and Corp members from other places. It was a two legged tie. The first was an away matched and we played out a one-one draw. The second leg in our home saw us thrashing our opponents by 5 goals to 1. It was an emphatic victory. A party was organized by our superiors to celebrate our victory. We had so much to eat and drink on the day.

What I consider my biggest achievement was "Fun and Games" event. I had promised to do that in my campaign and true to my words I made sure it hapoend. The event was aimed at providing opportunity for Corp members to unwind, have fun and socialize. There were varieties of games available. There was PS4, Snooker, Tennis, Darts, Scrabble, Chess and so much more. It was thrilling and full of finesse and I consider it one of the major achievement of my administration.
