Jeep HotRod and other Americana - Classic Cars at the Boat Show, Thailand p3

Classic Cars at the Ocean Marina Boat Show, Pattaya, Thailand 2022 - Part 3

See this post and part 2 here for a full description of this event. In part 3 (this post) we focus mainly on the other American cars on display. Great big fabulous hunks of vehicle they were too. First up, the craziest looking Jeep you may ever see.

U.S.A. Connection

Many of the original army jeeps were imported to Thailand in the Vietnam war era. Later they were kept or sold on locally and used as personal vehicles. Many would not have survived until the present day. This one in particular, has sort of 'survived' yet in a very different form than it would have once appeared. The owner has undertaken a completely insane build which results in an entirely bespoke vehicle. Powered by a large American V8 engine and equipped with many custom tuning parts to ensure it can handle the power. The wheels and tires are also gigantic.

Very interesting hood ornament arrangement. note the detailing around the headlights.

Check out those side exit pipes, like something from a WWII fighter plane.

The car is completely covered in airbrushed art graphics and other details. There isn't a space on the car that hasn't had some design put into it. There's an irony of aggression mixed with a coolsurfer/beach vibe going on, which makes an interesting contrast. 'War and Peace'.

A shot of the interior edited to black and white. It has a hydraulic handbrake setup like a drift car which is interesting! It's very much an open air, elbows over the side of the doors style machine.

More wild details adorn the rear of the car, plus the orginal JEEP embossed tailgate.

The shifter knob is a great eagle ... why not!

The seats are rather spartan metal buckets. There does at least seen to be some padding for the posterior, whilst the backrests appear to be floor mats? Rear luggage space looks rather shallow with all the lowering. The rear axles taking up all the space underneath.

From the front, low and aggressive looking. Very eye catching indeed. You must be able to see the open wheels as you go along, a bit like an open wheeled race car. Except it used to be a Jeep!

You'll want to watch your calves as you get in and out of this, those exhausts could get very hot indeed.

More Americana on show

Lincoln Continental, an absolute land yacht of a machine that seemed about the length of a yacht.

Rear view of the Continental. A very large trunk.

Interior (above) was something to behold, with a lot of green crushed velvet and wood veneer - very original. Interesting dials and layout in here, with a column mounted gearshift for the automatic gearbox - probably a 3 speed, typical in the times of this type of American car.

There is no doubting it's an American from first glance!

Likewise, another pink machine on display, a later model Continental with the folding headlamp covers. Very imposing and interesting looking machine. Shame I didn't get some more pictures of this. From the license plate, we can assume it's a private plate indicating the car year - 1972.

Finishing with a pair of Jaguars

For something completely different from the other side of the pond! A couple of lovely Jaguars, an XJ6 from the 1980s and a newer XK coupe from the late 90s. Both very nice models. Many thanks for checking them out! If you like cars, give us a like and a follow :)
