Interlude - On Mary's new abilities (D&D meta)

Hey, Everyone!

Mary Windfiddle is Level 4 now! 😊 It's so exciting! A bit bittersweet, considering what she’s supposed to face soon, but exciting nonetheless.

Before we continue with the story, I wanted to tell you more about her new spells and abilities and why I took them. You know that I’m not a power player and I choose Mary’s things depending on the story and her needs and wants in the moment. Also, I pretend that some of the new abilities are given to her by her Patron, without her knowledge and consent (because he wants her to survive long enough to do his tasks, or because he thinks something is useful).

This time, the Big One Mary got was the Eldritch Invocation called Devil’s Sight. It provides her with the ability to see in darkness, both magical and non-magical. Truth is, I’ve been eyeing this invocation ever since the story began – in our very first session we went into an underground tunnel and Mary and Aurum were completely useless in the dark. I didn’t take it then because a) Mary was still very inexperienced and didn’t know what’s good for an adventurer, and b) because I thought she’d like Eldritch Sight more (it was the invocation that allowed her to cast the Detect Magic spell at will).

Now, however, after all that stress and fear surrounding their journeys in the dark, I knew that Mary’d need that Invocation more than anything else. And so, I (as her Patron) just swapped the Eldritch Sight with the Devil’s Sight. She can no longer detect magic but she can see in the dark. I hope that helps her in some way.

So, about her spells then… um…

I now realize that I can’t tell you much about them because it’d be kind of a spoiler :( I’m just going to say – she got two new spells (actually, one, but I swapped another of her old ones for the second). The first of them we’re going to see in the very next episode. She’s been trying to learn it for months but now she’s finally strong enough to actually cast it with a tangible result. The other spell she thought of the moment she learned that she’d have to face up with a dragon. She’s hopefully going to use it when it comes to tricking the monster (Why ‘tricking’? Because it’s a freaking dragon, can you see her fighting that and surviving?! Yeah, me neither!). Whether that’s going to be enough to get her out of trouble… well, we’re going to have to wait and see!

And here’s the last exciting meta-thing – those of you who’ve read the last episode would know it already, but for the rest – the story’s schedule is changing from two times a week to three! From now on, I’m going to post episodes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday!

I hope you’ll be there to read them!
Take care and be well!

P. S. Here’s Mary as I made her on Hero Forge. It’s not a perfect rendition but it’s close enough. And I love her books!
