I have two more Love Heart donuts to tell you about. This one and the other one were not in the Limited Edition Valentine’s Box of 3.
Krispy Kreme - Purple Love Heart
”Limited Edition heart shaped doughnut with a sherbet kreme filling, topped with a purple sherbet icing and a Love Hearts® phrase.”
I was really dubious about a sherbet flavoured donut, especially when there appeared to be no other flavour going on. The colour of the donut did remind me of the purple Love Heart sweets, but the flavour reminded me of something else. The purple icing and the sherbet filling both tasted of a sherbert lipstick that I used to get from the penny sweet shop back in the 80’s. The sweet had a coloured plastic tube that you lift off revealing the column of pink / purple hard sherbet underneath. I’m sure this was meant to be sucked, but we always used to bite them, almost breaking our teeth on them. Anyway, the flavour was exactly of that sweet. I do like that flavour as it took me right back to my childhood, but I really didn’t want this flavour in a donut.
I couldn’t finish this donut. It really wasn’t a good combination of donut and sherbet. Maybe if they made it a black currant flavour or have some sort of fruity jam to go with the sherbet kreme, that might have made it a bit more appealing. However, as it was. I didn’t like it much.
