During a late night drawing session with Apophysis 2.09 Fractal Rendering program, flowers were on my mind. We're only three weeks into the new year and already our family has lost two of its members. I remembered ordering arrangements for them but not ordinary flowers. I envisioned something different.

Flowers represent numerous symbols in nature. Various varieties serve to provide unique symbols society interprets for different purposes. Additionally, diverse cultures embrace different meanings for each flower. The meanings may be similar across cultures.

This is also true for how cultures view flowers for artistic and literary purposes. How flowers talk to us provide the sources of inspiration. The language they speak opens our minds and stirs our imagination to produce magnificent works of art and literature. This is called the language of flowers. For example, a rose signifies love. Then, the different colors take us in directions of passion and longing.

Other flowers with corresponding colors may signify beauty, purity, happiness, sadness, wealth, and wisdom.

When I think of my personality from a young age, I've always things to look, feel, and be different somehow from others, even family. As I began my fractal design, the first thing I did was to change to a color pattern, texture, and hue that are normally not seen in a flower arrangements. The color choice I desired was bronze, yellow, and gold.

That's when I thought about a series of flower arrangements with the above basic colors. The shapes and designs will be different. In perfecting my flower collection, all arrangements in this series will be a different set of variations used to create the petals and stems.

The combined colors turned out beautifully. I named this set "The Golden Bouquet Collection."

THE GOLDEN BOUQUET COLLECTION NO. 1:

"The Royal Centerpiece"

Fractal are an infinite mathematical equation that is represented by coordinates. They are the objects that are created from complex functions. As Jesus Najera points out and explains in his article on Fractal Geometry, in math, the branch centered around the study of continuous, patterned, but irregular symmetry is known as Fractal Geometry. The important key is the principal of iterations. The detailed patterns created by the complex equations are similar across different areas of the patterns. It's the same as replication. The replications may be smaller in one sector of the pattern; then larger in another. ¹

When we translate the patterns visually, we summon digital images that described the mathematical patterns. As I previously discussed, Apophysis 2.09 is a Windows application that is open sourced and utilized for rendering fractal flames. This program can also design and edit the drawing before rendering.

My first fractal flower arrangement in the collection I named: "The Royal Centerpiece".

For my first flower in this collection, I wanted to create an awesome centerpiece flower that would be fit for a grand banquet room. I believed I accomplished this task. I relied heavily on the variations that fit the Julian profile. The Julia Sets of fractals were developed by Gaston Julia in the early 1900s.

Julia was a superb mathematician who was fascinated by the concept of the roots of polynomial equations as they relate to iterations. His findings served as the prerequisite for modern fractal study in him identifying the distinction between iterations of points (orbits) that converge to a repeated pattern versus those that escape (goes out to infinity). The points that repeat after multiple iterations, normally marked by their mesmerizing visual patterns, are known as Julia Sets. ¹

Completing My Fractal:
The first step of setting up my design was to choose several variations that would produce circles. My final fractal consists of this transparent image. The last step in the fractal creation process was to save this digital drawing by rendering the flames that were used to create the image.

Once completed, I was then ready to transfer my fractal to another program to finalize and combine the different fractal elements of the original drawing.

Pulling it all together:

The key to most fractal images is the chosen background. I feel that fractals look amazing on black backgrounds. To achieve this effect, I utilized a photo editing program to achieve a black background.

Next, I combined the main fractal and corresponding fractal images to complete the bouquet.
