Mexican Murals - Jaguar Deity and Furries finally completed [CCC's Street Art Contest #97]

Only a couple of blocks from where I live in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood of Mexico City there's a mural I have been waiting for ... seemingly forever. It's located right next to another mural I posted about here. Since that mural looked pretty cool already, I was hoping that the rough outlines on the wall would develop into a similarly impressive piece, but it just wouldn't happen. It felt like the muralist had given up on it.

Back After Some Time Away

And eventually I stopped checking on the wall... not because I had given up on it too, but simply because I was not here. Now that I'm back, I'm happy to see that the mural had been completed too. And it does look quite interesting. It's an image of the Méxica deity Tezcatlipoca, who among other things is in charge of abundance, the night sky, and yes, jaguars!

In this mural he is holding a torch, illuminating the darkness of the night, and breaking the chains restricting him. On his back he is carrying a basket of corn, symbolizing abundance, and most notably he is extending his hand to the two furry animals, most likely coyote pups in front of him.

Looking for the Artist

The tag in the top left-hand corner should make it totally obvious: the artist behind this piece is a certain FABR. So I tried to look it up, and as it turns out, there are two Fábrica de Murales in Mexico (probably more). Though since the facebook link shows a completely different style, I think it's more probable that the artist behind the instagram link are the ones who painted this image.

In either case, I would like to submit this mural to the weekly CCC Street Art Contest. Feel free to visit their site, and if you too know some good looking murals where you are, it's worth posting and submitting. There are great prizes to be won each week.
