SplinterGlossary: Modern & Wild Formats
The gameplay of the Splinterlands ranked battles system is divided in two formats:
- modern and
- wild.
The two formats are similar from the gameplay perspective, with the exception of the cards that are allowed to play in each. They also have different leaderboards, with separate sets of rewards, but share the same ECR.
In the Wild format, all cards from all editions are allowed.
In the Modern format, only cards from the most recent two main editions and associated mini-editions, plus associated reward cards and promo cards can be played. Currently, that means Untamed, Dice,Chaos Legion, and Riftwatchers editions.
For the purpose of establishing the type of loot chest to earn in focus missions and as season rewards, the higher league between the two formats is considered.
