Interlude: Hope (written by our DM) (D&D story)

Hello, Everyone!

This post is something really special. So far, we've been following the story from Mary's perspective but this lets us look through someone else's eyes. Our DM wrote this scene and posted it in our chat after we said goodbye to lord Dwendel and his family. I don't know about the other players but it sure made me emotional!

I hope you like it, too!

"Daddy, why are you crying?"

His eyes gave him away despite his stoicism.

"It's nothing, son, keep eating before it gets cold."

He got up from the table and hurried into the next room. The lump in his throat had grown huge and his voice faltered in those few last words. What was happening to him? What had they done to him? It wasn't possible, but he could feel it deep inside.

Hope.

His tears poured uncontrollably. His throat let out a cry like a wounded animal, he fell to his knees and slumped on the floor. His entire being was seizing in an emotional outburst. All his grief, hidden away for years, was surfacing and ravaging him. He felt his wife's embrace distantly. She was speaking to him, trying to calm him, but he wasn't hearing her.

His girl! He wanted to hug his daughter and tell her how much he loved her. After so many people had searched for her, how were these youngsters going to succeed? His mind was denying the possibility, but his heart was slamming against the chains of reason.

"Find her, Mary, please find her!"
