The Adventures of Freddy the Flea Pt 6

Previously on Freddy The Flea:

Freddy and Fria feasted on the mouse, until they just couldn’t anymore. Lots of laughs and jokes later, Fria convinced Freddy to explore. Freddy, seemingly anxious, agreed and the decision was made to head up to the mouse’s head, which was also one of the safest places for them to be.

Part 6:

Fria held Freddy’s hand as they gently made their way up from the mouse’s upper leg towards the top of its head.

“Careful now,” Fria said, as Freddy’s leg slipped a little, “We don’t want to cause any disturbance. Once that back leg gets scratching, it’s lightning fast and relentless.”

Fria noticed that Freddy was holding his breath.

With a soft smile she said, “Freddy, try to breath, slow, even breathes.”

She didn’t want to draw too much attention to it, so Fria quickly looked ahead again and slowly pushed forward. She could hear Freddy was breathing a little easier now. The tension in his hand eased down a little and it felt less like dragging him along.

The journey continued without a hitch. As Fria and Freddy reached the top of the mouse’s head, they heard some noises ahead.

“Do you hear that?” Freddy asked.

“Shhh,” Fria was trying to zone into the sounds ahead.

They carefully moved forward, no longer concerned about the mouse’s paws, but rather curious about the noise.

As Freddy and Fria edged closer, they could vaguely see movement ahead and the sounds became ever clearer.

“It sounds like a party,” Fria said.

Freddy turned his head to the side and leaned forward.

“You’re right. It does.”

Freddy wasn’t completely new to the concept. They’d regularly have parties and celebrations where he was from. This one just seemed much more… energetic.

As the two pulled away the last of the hairs blocking their way, their jaws dropped to the ground.

What they saw not only surprised them but got them excited too.
There was music, lights and Fleas shaking their booties all around. If Freddy had to compare it to anything, it would have to be The Annual College Shakedown he attended in his later years on Hair and Honey.

“This is wild!” Fria yelled, “Let’s go!”

Fria pulled Freddy towards the dance floor. She unashamedly started dancing about as Freddy awkwardly looked about. No one even seemed to notice them, and Freddy gradually started relaxing, shuffling his feet around.

“Hola hombre,” one the Fleas next to Freddy said. He had a huge grin on his face and was dancing about like there’s no tomorrow.

“Excuse me?”

“Qué le parece la música?”

Freddy looked back at Fria, “I don’t understand what he’s saying.”

Fria laughed at Freddy and before she could explain, the other Flea spoke up.

“Oh, you’re not from here, my friend.”

“No, we actually-“

“Okay, no problemo. What is your name?”

“Freddy.”

“And you, chica?”

“Fria,” she said as she shook her head from side to side.

“Mi nombre es,” he said, tapping his hand on his chest, “Pablo.”

With that, Pablo quickly made his way to the DJ. He spoke into his ear and the next minute the music stopped.

“Ola, ola!” Pablo yelled, “Say hello to our new friends, Freddy and Fria!”

As Pablo pointed to the pair, everyone around looked at them followed by a second of silence, which felt like a lifetime for Freddy. Then, everyone started yelling.

“Ola!”

“Ola amigo!”

“Ola Chica!”

Then the music went back on and everyone, including Freddy, started dancing again.

It wasn’t long after that, then Fleas started bringing strange drinks around. Fria assured Freddy that it would be okay, and as the night wore on, so Freddy loosened up. At one point, he even believed he understood what these Fleas were saying. On top of the mouse’s head, the Fleas carried on late into the night.

The following morning, Freddy woke up, blurry eyed. His head was pounding. Fleas lay about all over. Some seemed to be getting up from their slumber, while a few others were slinging about.

“What happened?” Freddy whispered to himself.

He looked around to see where Fria was, but she was nowhere in sight.

“Fria!” Freddy called out, but Pablo responded.

“Ola, Freddy, amigo.” Pablo said as he walked towards Freddy.

Pablo looked as fresh as daisies.

“Come, come,” Pablo said, as he pulled Freddy’s arm.

Freddy got up, with some difficulty, before asking.

“Have you seen Fria?”

“Sí,sí, Fria. Come, I show you.”

Pablo guided Freddy past a few hairs and turns, and that’s when he saw it.

Sitting there, at the edge of the ‘world’, was Fria.

Past her silhouette, Freddy could see sunny blue skies, huge green trees and grass that seemed to stretch underneath it all in an endless fashion.

“Freddy, you’re here!”

Fria jumped up and gave him a hug. Freddy groaned slightly as she squeezed him, surprisingly hard for such a small Flea.

“Thank you, Pablo,” Fria said as she let Freddy go.

Pablo smiled and with half a bow, simply said, “Chica,” before walking off.

“Have you ever seen anything so magnificent in your life?”

Freddy was still trying to absorb it all. He’d seen the sky before, but this view from up here, was just on another level. He’s vaguely seen grass and trees from amongst hair. This was crystal clear though. Nothing in the way as far as the eye could see.

It gave Freddy a sense of freedom he’d never experienced before. He closed his eyes and drew a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air gently blowing over his face.

“Thank you, Fria.”

The two of them sat there for what felt like hours, hardly saying a word, and simply enjoying the sight together.
