Wohnmobilstellplatz am Abtei-Bräu in Mettlach / RV park at the Abbe...

Letzte Woche war ich mit meinem Wohnmobil im Saarland unterwegs und machte meinen ersten Halt in der saarländischen Gemeinde Mettlach.

Last week I was on the road in Saarland with my camper and made my first stop in the Saarland commune of Mettlach.

Mettlach liegt an der Saar im Landkreis Merzig-Wadern und grenzt im Norden an Rheinland-Pfalz. Etwa die Hälfte des Gemeindegebietes ist mit Wald bedeckt.

Bereits Ende des siebten Jahrhunderts gründete Liutwin, der spätere Bischof von Trier, die Benediktinerabtei Mettlach. In der napoleonischen Zeit (1799 bis 1821), während der Französischen Revolution, wurde die Abtei aufgegeben und vom Staat übernommen. Das heutige Abteigebäude stammt aus dem 18. Jahrhundert und beherbergt noch heute den Hauptsitz des Keramikunternehmens Villeroy & Boch.

Mettlach is located on the Saar River in the district of Merzig-Wadern and borders Rhineland-Palatinate to the north. About half of the municipal area is covered with forest.

Already at the end of the seventh century Liutwin, the later bishop of Trier, founded the Benedictine Abbey of Mettlach. In the Napoleonic era (1799 to 1821), during the French Revolution, the abbey was abandoned and taken over by the state. Today's abbey building dates back to the 18th century and still houses the headquarters of the ceramics company Villeroy & Boch.

Im Park der Alten Abtei steht der von Andre Heller geschaffene Erdgeist (Bild links), der ursprünglich auf der ersten deutschen Weltausstellung Expo 2000 in Hannover als Ausstellungsbeitrag des WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) aufgestellt wurde. Das Motto der Expo 2000 lautete "Mensch, Natur und Technik - eine neue Welt entsteht". Der Homo Ceramicus auf dem rechten Bild stellt einen Roboter dar und wurde 1974 von J. van Mijnsbrugge anlässlich des Internationalen Keramiksymposiums geschaffen.

In the park of the Old Abbey stands the Earth Spirit created by Andre Heller (picture left), which was originally set up at the first German world exhibition Expo 2000 in Hanover as an exhibition contribution of the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). The motto of Expo 2000 was "Man, Nature and Technology - A New World Emerges." Homo Ceramicus in the right picture, represents a robot and was created in 1974 by J. van Mijnsbrugge on the occasion of the International Ceramic Symposium.

Der Wohnmobilstellplatz ... / The RV park ...

... ist ein Stellplatz für 8 Wohnmobile am Ortsrand von Mettlach, der ganzjährig genutzt werden kann. Der Platz ist geschottert und teilweise eben. In der Nähe befindet sich das Restaurant Abtei-Bräu und direkt hinter dem Platz gibt es Einkaufsmöglichkeiten bei Lidl. Frischwasser ist auf dem Platz vorhanden. Die Entsorgung der chemischen Toilette ist in der Stellplatzgebühr von 5 Euro enthalten. Eine Grauwasserentsorgung ist nicht vorhanden. Die Bezahlung der Parkgebühr erfolgt über eine App oder SMS oder im Tourismusbüro. Das Zentrum ist in wenigen Minuten zu Fuß zu erreichen. Es gibt ausgewiesene Rad- und Wanderwege.

... is a site for 8 motorhomes on the outskirts of Mettlach, which can be used all year round. The site is gravelled and partly level. Nearby is the restaurant Abtei-Bräu and directly behind the site there are shopping facilities at Lidl. Fresh water is available at the site. Disposal of the chemical toilet is included in the pitch fee of 5 euros. There is no grey water disposal. Payment of the parking fee is done via an app or SMS or at the tourist office. The center is a few minutes walk away. There are designated cycling and hiking trails.
