Previously on Freddy The Flea:

DaFlea led Fria to an alternative entrance into The Clump of Death. He made quick work of the two Ticks standing guard and they entered. DaFlea explained to Fria how they’d carved openings that shed light inside and before they reached their destination, he pointed her towards an escape path on the map, should things go wrong.

Part 14

DaFlea looked out of the darkened tunnel. He could see the main holding chamber up ahead, however that would be an impossible task. Instead, he opted to wait until the prisoners were being transferred to The Arena. This is where he would find his partner and together, they can work towards taking down this ring.

Fria was completely unaware of this. She thought DaFlea was merely helping her, however he would have made his way there anyhow. Fria was a Flea in need that happened to be in the right place, at the right time. DaFlea couldn’t just leave her to find her own way. She’ll put herself and possibly their mission at risk.

“Do you see up there?” DaFlea asked, pointing up towards the roof.

“There’s a pathway that will carry us safely across towards The Arena. It’s a little bit hairy, but as long as we’re careful, we can make it.”

Fria looked at the pathway, then back at DaFlea. She noticed the various possibilities of becoming entangled up there. She seemed a little nervous, however agreed.

The two slowly started making their way towards the path that would carry them across the holding chamber towards The Arena. As they got closer, there was more activity. There were a few occasions where they were nearly spotted by the guards, however they managed to get right up to the point where they’d have to make a climb towards the path above.

“This is it. Remember the plan. As soon as they start taking the prisoners towards The Arena, we head up and over the path.”

Fria nodded in agreement. Even though DaFlea wasn’t completely forthcoming about his own reasons for assisting her, he was very clear and concise in what the plan was.

“You’ll need your energy before we proceed to the next step, so I suggest you feed now.”

Fria and DaFlea were in a quiet, covered area, and the two started sucking down on the cat. Just as they’d finished, bellies filled to the brim, they heard some nearby ramblings closing in on their position.

“My money is on the one wearing the black and yellow suit.”

“No way,” said another, “Did you see that Flea with the scar across his eye. He’s going to be the new champion.”

“Well, I bet the first one that’s going to die is the one that said he’s from Mount Furry. What was his name again?” a third said.

“Yes, I know. Uhm, Freddy, he said his name was Freddy The Flea. He’s definitely one of the first to die.”

They all burst out into laughter. Fria wanted to jump out at them, however DaFlea held her back.

“Shhh,” he whispered, “You’re going to get us killed.”

“I don’t care,” Fria said, as her anger took control. She was emotionally drained. There was just too much going on and the fact that they laughed at her friend’s demise was the tipping point. She broke free from DaFlea’s grasp, burst out of the shadows, and came face to face with two Roughneck Flea’s and two Ticks.

“Well, well, what do we have here?” said the one, as he took a step closer to Fria.

The others already had their weapons drawn and ready. The Ticks carried club-like sticks and the Roughneck’s had what looked like fish bones.

“Where is Freddy?” demanded Fria.

“Oh, you want to rescue your friend?” said one of the Ticks, with its raspy tone.

They all started closing in on Fria. She slowly stepped back, realizing she had not made the wisest of choices. Fria frantically looked about, trying to find something to fend off the group.

“Freddy’s going to become cat food soon and you might as well join him. Lord Tick would be pleased with an extra sacrifice.”

Fria was panicking. She figured DaFlea had made a run for it due to her stupid decision. As she took another step back, her foot got caught up in some hair, causing her to fall back on her buttocks.

The group burst into laughter yet again.

“You’re coming with us now,” said one of the Ticks as he bent down to grab her.

With that, DaFlea came flying through the air, kicking the Tick flat across the side of his face. His club dropped from his hands and landed right on Fria’s lap.

“Quick, get him!” shouted the other.

DaFlea was lightning fast. He punched the first Roughneck that attacked him straight in the stomach and grabbed his fishbone sword with one smooth motion. The other Roughneck attempted to strike at him, however DaFlea was too quick, blocking his attacker as the fishbones clashed. DaFlea kicked him away, turned around and knocked the Tick off its feet with a wide sweeping motion of his fishbone sword.

He turned to face the Roughneck Flea again and managed to land a kick to the back of his hand, sending his fishbone sword flying into a nearby clump of hair. The Roughneck looked at DaFlea in awe, which quickly turned to a wry smile as his eyes looked past him. He realized the Tick must have gotten back up and as he wanted to turn, Fria yelled.

“Watch out!”

DaFlea ducked and tumbled, simultaneously rolling in such a fashion that he would be looking straight towards the Tick. The Tick had attempted to smash down on DaFlea, as a thud could be heard when he missed his target and landed his club on the ground. Then he saw Fria giving the Tick a solid whack, straight down on his head, sending him crumbling to the ground.

“Well, well, Fria,” said DaFlea pleasingly.

Fria gave him a quick smile, before realizing the other Roughneck had turned and started running away.

“Quick! He’s getting away!”

DaFlea looked around and realized it was too late. He already started calling for help and soon the place would be swarming with Roughneck Flea’s and Ticks.

“Come, quickly Fria! We have to get to the passage immediately.”

They climbed as fast as they could. As soon as they reached the beginning of the passage, they looked down and saw there were already a bunch of their enemies in pursuit. Some of them were completely cloaked in black and they seemed to be climbing much faster than the rest.

“Who are they?” asked Fria.

“They’re part of Lord Tick’s personal guard. We need to move. Now!”
