And once again another week has passed, and once again, there is another Street-art Contest by CCC (It's number 68 to be exact.) So once again I decided to post some murals from the Metro Station Chabacano in Mexico City, which has so many awesome murals that it would be a waste to combine them all in one post. As you remember, I have already features some here, here, and also here. And as you can probably guess, today's mural is also not the last one from this great location.
Remembering Teochnitlán
The two images I picked are on the two opposite ends of the metro station. Both of them picture a Méxica man, possibly of an important social position, judging from the headdress. In the second image he is blowing on a conch, that is a seashell, producing a powerful, penetrating sound. The background in both images is what the city of Tenochtitlán (Mexico City before the conquest) must have looked like with its canals instead of streets. In the distance we can see the surrounding mountains. The nopal cactus in the foreground further amplifies Mexican identity.
Each image has a list of social media contacts listed, most likely of the artist behind these two murals. The style of the paintings suggest they were created by the same muralist(s), but honestly, I couldn't tell you who. Maybe if you zoom in you can make it out. I tried, but I should probably go back to the site to get a closer look. :-(
