The Adventures of Freddy The Flea Pt 15

Previously on Freddy The Flea:

Fria and DaFlea were attempting to reach a hairy passage that would take them across the holding chamber, to The Arena. Once there, they plan to connect with DaFlea’s partner and trainer. They were however discovered and now being chased towards the passage, with Lord Ticks cloaked Flea's closing in quickly.

Part 15:

Once Fria and DaFlea reached the passage, it looked hairier than ever. They would need to navigate carefully, yet quickly, without getting caught up. One mistake could mean being trapped up there, for Lord Tick’s guard to do with as they please.

DaFlea quickly surveyed the passage, then acted. There was no time to spare as the Cloaked Fleas were closing in quickly.

“This way, Fria. Follow me and watch my steps closely,” he said, as he took the first step.

The passage, which hung like a bridge in the sky, was difficult to traverse. Occasionally, it would swing from side to side, causing the two to stop dead in their tracks.

DaFlea looked back and saw there were three of the Cloaked Fleas that already set foot on the bridge. They were far too quick, as the two only managed to edge along.

“We need to hurry!” shouted DaFlea as he looked ahead once again.

They still had a long way to go, and he knew they’d catch up with them before they made it across.

“Just keep going and don’t look back,” DaFlea said as he pushed Fria ahead of him, “You know where to step now.”

“How are they moving so fast?” Fria asked, as she cautiously made her way forward.

“They’ve lived and trained in The Clump of Death all their lives. These are no ordinary Fleas. They’re Lord Ticks greatest Assassins.”

Fria felt sick to her stomach, ‘What have I done?’

As the Cloaked Fleas drew closer, they could hear what sounded like chanting.

“Death is coming.”

“You will burn.”

“Invaders shall die.”

Fria’s stomach made another awful turn, “What the heck is that?”

DaFlea looked laser-focused, “Don’t worry, just move!”

It wasn’t long until the first two Cloaked Flea’s had caught up. They’ve only managed about a quarter of the way when DaFlea stopped.

“Keep going Fria!” he shouted

With a lunge and a flying kick, the first Flea aimed straight for DaFlea’s chest. He managed to twist his body sideways, grab him by the leg, and flung him over the side of the passage. Before he could react, the second Flea was on top of him, landing two quick blows straight on the nose, before sweeping his feet out from under him.

DaFlea tucked and rolled back, landing square on his feet again. The third Flea was now standing side by side with his partner, as they squared off on the hairy path.

The two attacked in a synchronous fashion, coming for him with lightning speed. A few blocks, kicks, and punches later had sent DaFlea sliding on his back across the path. He got up quickly, however, the blows did some damage, as he held his ribcage with one hand. With the exchange, he managed to land a few blows of his own, however, the two still stood strong in front of him.

DaFlea was breathing heavily. He quickly looked back and saw Fria was struggling along. His immediate concern though was these two Cloaked Fleas. They were just moving way too fast for him and he saw that there were others that followed behind. Luckily, the others were Roughnecks and Ticks, who also seemed to struggle along.

‘How are they moving so quickly up here?’ thought DaFlea. It seemed near impossible.

That’s when he remembered what his partner used to tell him when things got tough.

If you want to learn to swim jump into the water. On dry land no frame of mind is ever going to help you.

‘That’s it,’ he thought. He must be missing something.

As the two quickly approached, he saw they were landing on coil-like clumps on the path, boosting their movement speed. DaFlea quickly looked about and saw these were all over. Just before they reached him, he placed his feet atop two of these and immediately felt the extra spring in his bounce. The two Fleas came at him again, one from each side. Both attempted a flying punch, but as they reached DaFlea, he bent his knees, pushed back up, and did a spectacular backflip. The two Cloaked Fleas went crashing into each other, as the one accidentally punched his counterpart lights out.

Snarling at DaFlea, the remaining Cloaked Flea attempted a quick lunge towards his belly, to tackle him. DaFlea was too quick this time. Again, he used the bounce of the coils, jumping forward and launching a knee straight up, under the chin of his foe. The Cloaked Flea went flying up and fell like a rag to the ground.

DaFlea turned his attention to the others that were crossing over towards them. They still seemed to be struggling along.

With a wry smile, DaFlea pushed ahead. Bouncing along with the coils, he quickly caught up with Fria.

“Do you see these?” he said, pointing to the vaguely visible coils.

Fria seemed a little confused until he explained what to look for. That’s when she saw it, clear as day.

“Just keep an eye on those and feel your way through,” It didn’t take Fria long before she got the hang of it.

“Whoo-hoo!” Fria shouted as she was able to glide along the tricky path.

DaFlea burst out into laughter behind her. Fria realized she’d never heard him laugh before, and smiled from ear to ear as the two quickly made their escape across the hairy pathway.
